Nobson Newtown is an imaginary town that was first conceived by Paul Noble in the mids and has been growing ever since. Noble’s imagination seems limitless; his latest exhibition of works plays on a new ‘civic monument on the roundabout at the outskirts of town. The monument is a large, vertical structure that spells out the friendly message “Welcome to Nobson”’ that is also the.

His book Nobson, Newtown (Salon Verlag, ), a kind of history of his eponymous town and a parody of various genres of guidebook, uses his drawings as illustrations. Presenting literature as archeological slum is clearly Noble's most intriguing conceptual invention. G A G O S I A N W W W. G A G O S I A N. C O M. Paul Noble Bibliography. A month later Paul Noble arrived at her studio with The Obscure Temple of the Starr Cult Beyond Nobson Newtown. Not all the drawings reproduced in the first Nobson Newtown book made it into the Chisenhale show, and vice versa.

In particular, the book starts with the Starr drawing. In the book we’re told that Staworm is the name given to the early peoples of the region. Introduction to Nobson Newtown by Paul Noble Published by Salon Verlag in : I lament, because the present project - NOBSON NEWTOWN: An Unofficial Guide - is not going to be easy to pull off, dealing as it does with such delicate areas as a visual artist’s intellectual property rights, gallery interests, the possibility of perceived plagiarism and bandwagoning by.

Artist Paul Noble has spent the last 10 years constructing an imaginary place called Nobson Newton in large-scale pencil drawings. Conceptually faithful to Nobson Newtown, this new body of work is a stage set for “a play without acts”.

Placing the viewer directly inside Noble’s space of language, TENT is the physical and architectural realisation of Nobfont; Noble’s own invention for a place. Noble’s intricate graphite drawings describe Nobson Newtown, a place composed of labyrinthine edifices and deserted topography embedded with modules of dense detail.

Employing cavalier projection—a cartographical method characterized by a high viewpoint—Noble meticulously delineates a wealth of elaborate architecture and open urban spaces.

Nobson Central is the name of the work that Paul was talking to me about, and working on, the day of my studio visit. It’s dated /9 and is four metres long and three metres high.

An artist’s book, Nobson Central, was published by Walther Konig of Cologne, inand that’s where the above illustrations are taken from. The book completely reproduces the drawing in page form, adding nothing.

Welcome to Nobson There were four years between the first Gagosian Nobson Newtown show and the second, which was held from early November to mid December,at the international gallery’s impressive London premises on Britannia Street in the West End.

Again Gagosian’s website covers the show very well. There’s a video tour of ‘Welcome to Nobson’ and a series of installation shots. The peculiar urban environment of Nobson Newtown and its unusual history are described in Noble’s book Introduction to Nobson (), a parody of various genres of tourist, museum and heritage guides.

The book narrates how the entire city was rebuilt to its current form to reflect the unanimous desires of its citizens. 'Nobson' is an imaginary town conceived by Paul Noble and described in his book Nobson Newtown (Salon Verlag, ), a humorous parody of various genres of tourist, museum and heritage guides.

The Chisenhale show comprises 12 of the extremely large, unframed, graphite pencil drawings used to illustrate the book. Nobson Newtown was an “exercise in self-portraiture via town planning,” involving “the painstaking design of a special font based on the forms of classic modernist architecture.” The “city,” in other words, was made of words.

A visitor's guide to Nobson might warn you not to enter the maze (there are things in there you don't want to know about), to keep clear of the slides, and stay away from the hanging tree, with its Author: Adrian Searle.

The town has its own history, archaeology and geology; in Introduction To Nobson Newtown, Noble recounts how it was built out of a unique stone found in the Nobhill Downs called Nobrock, which the.
