Latitude measures angles in the north south direction and longitude measures angles in the east west direction. layer: A logical set of thematic data described and stored in a map library. Layers organize a map library by subject matter, e.g., soils, roads, wells and extend over the entire geographic area defined by the spatial index of the map. Lee, R.W., , Water-quality maps for the middle Tertiary aquifer in the Southeastern Coastal Plain of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina, U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources Investigations Report

Objective and Scope: The objective of the proposed investigation is to use an existing, updated groundwater-flow model of the South Carolina Coastal Plain aquifers and confining units in the Mount Pleasant area created by Petkewich and Campbell () to simulate current groundwater conditions and to include current planning goals developed by MPW (C. Duffie, MPW, , personal commun.). Geologic map of Calhoun County, Alabama, and locations of order to adequately evaluate the service area within the context of the geologic, hydrologic, and geochemical setting and to provide a more comprehensive study. "n November , the U. S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with Coastal Carolina University, began a program to produce geologic maps of the nearshore regime off northern South Carolina, utilizing high resolution sidescan sonar, interferometric (direct phase methods) swath bathymetry, and seismic subbottom profiling systems. The Triassic–Jurassic South Georgia Rift (SGR) Basin, buried beneath Coastal Plain sediments of southern South Carolina, southeastern Georgia, western Florida, and southern Alabama, consists of an assemblage of continental rift deposits (popularly called red beds), and mafic igneous rocks (basalt flows and diabase sills).

The red beds are capped by basalts and/or diabase sills, and Cited by: 8.
